Hand mirrors are convenient and easy to store. More importantly, they can be quickly maneuvered to cast the best light on your features for a quick adjustment to make-up or hair. While most hand mirrors tend to have a single circular reflecting glass panel, the handle itself can come in a variety of different materials, while other mirrors have no handle, but use a folding arm instead. Each version has different attributes, depending on how and where the hand mirrors will be used.

Folding Hand Mirror

Style: These mirrors can range in size from a relatively small diameter to a mirror that is almost larger than the entire hand. They are often mounted on an arm which rotates, folds, and otherwise bends with extreme ease.

Features: These hand mirrors are wonderful for use in almost any environment. Easy to manipulate and sized to fit virtually anywhere, they are ideally suited to capture all angles of light. Some of the folding hand mirrors also come equipped with a magnified reflecting side which allows for close-up inspection of desired areas. They are also perfect for frequent travelers because they are so easy to pack and store.

Durability: Because they are so easy to manipulate, a folding hand held mirror may break more easily due to the carelessness of the person holding them. However, if they are carefully used and not dropped on the floor, these mirrors will last for a much longer period of time. Often, the plastic casing will pick up nicks and scratches from daily use if it is moved frequently. These minor blemishes will not damage the structural integrity of the mirror, although they will make it look less than ideal.

Antique Hand Mirror

Style: Usually featuring a heavily engraved or ornamented handle made from material such as copper, antique hand style mirrors are extremely stylish.

Features: The deliberate throwback to antique style makes these hand mirrors exceptionally beautiful, although it can take some practice to angle them correctly in order to make the best use of available light. These mirrors generally do not have a handle that is made to flex or alter its design in any way. As a result, they are better as ornamental objects rather than daily use mirrors.

Durability: If treated with care, this style of mirror can last for a relatively long period of time. The material of the body is vitally important to the long-term durability of the mirror. Those mirrors made from materials such as copper will survive, although they will require frequent cleaning to maintain their luster.
