Remodeling a small bathroom requires planning, dedication, and a certain amount of expertise. Although it will cost slightly less to remodel than a larger bathroom, small bathrooms are not necessarily less complicated. By following a few basic steps, you will be able to complete the a small bathroom remodeling rapidly and efficiently.

Step 1: Choosing The Type of Bathroom

Whether you want a half-bath, a full-bath, or a powder room with a sink, make the choice now. It may sound obvious, but there is no equivocating on this point. Bathroom remodeling is a complex process, and can’t be changed mid-way through without incurring significant headaches.

Step 2: Planning

A small size can deceive people into thinking that they do not need to sit down and carefully map out the dimensions of their bathroom and consider multiple small bathroom remodeling ideas. However, this step is always required, primarily because items such as cabinets, plumbing hook-ups, and toilets come in standard sizes. To make this step easier, buy some home design software and map everything out to the last inch.

Step 3: Back to Basics

Remove everything from the bathroom in order to give yourself a clean slate from which to work. This means removing the various fixtures, cabinets and the drywall, so that you can install totally new items.

Step 4: Plumbing and Electrical Installation

Now that the bathroom is completely open, you may easily install all of your plumbing fixtures and electrical wiring without the bother of walls. If you have planned carefully, this step should be relatively straightforward, although plumbing and electrical installation in of themselves require a fair amount of knowledge to be able to do properly. If you feel uncertain about your abilities in this area, do not hesitate to hire a professional. It will save you time and money, not only in the initial stages, but later on down the line in needless repair costs. There are generally two stages to this installation: the rough-in phase, and the phase after the walls have been filled in and sealed. Each phase will require an official inspection by building code officers to make sure the work has been done properly.

Step 5: Flooring, Mirrors, Accessories, and Cabinet Installation

Now that the hard work is done, you may install the fun parts of the bathroom, including the flooring, the mirrors, and the cabinets. This is the stage that many people who undertake a remodel of their bathroom are most excited about, primarily because it is so easy to see the results of their handiwork.
